Meet Special Olympics Canada

Special Olympics Canada is dedicated to enriching the lives of Canadians with an intellectual disability through the transformative power of sport.

From 2-year-olds to mature adults, more than 41,000 Special Olympics athletes are registered in 6,175 programs in 365 communities across Canada. They are supported by more than 17,500 coaches and volunteers.

“Our athletes look to Special Olympics as their social connection to friends and community. While Special Olympics Canada and our 12 Provincial/Territorial Chapters were united in our goal of keeping athletes, volunteers, and coaches engaged throughout the pandemic despite the suspension of in-person programs, this was still a very challenging time for our athletes. Now that we are able to safely open programs back up across Canada, Special Olympics athletes are eagerly returning to the playing field. This would not be possible without the generous support of Sobeys.”
